My good friend Angelo has a need that, if met, could very likely lead him to gainful employment after many years of searching. See his letter below and prayerfully consider making a donation to help him attend the ACB Convention.

Dear Friends,

I have an opportunity to attend a convention in July that could benefit me tremendously. The convention is put on by the American Council for the Blind (created in 1961 as an advocacy group for the visually impaired and blind - www.acb.org) and is focused on training those of us who are visually impaired to obtain employment. It involves education, workshops, and actual interviews that could result in on the spot hiring.

I am very excited about this opportunity, but as it is in Reno, Nevada, finances are an issue. The convention is unable to provide scholarships and expects us to raise support to get ourselves there.

The cost is $2,500 which includes airfare, transportation in Reno, meals, hotel accommodations, and the convention registration.

So there was this little check fraud thing committed against me the other day.

Week before last a young man knocked on the door asking if he could mow my lawn (which desperately needed it) for some gas money. Because I really didn’t want to mow it, I walked outside with him to take a look at the yard and see what he would charge.

My yard is quite large so when he said $50-$70 I knew that was a fair rate. I almost said yes, but then thought to myself that I really needed to do it myself and save the cheddar. When I told him that he said $35 to which I replied, “Really? Thirty-five bucks? Deal!” After that I asked if he’d take a check and he said sure…no problem.
