When I was in seminary (Jan. 1999 to Dec. 2000) I decided to let my hair grow out. I had always wanted to have long hair, long enough to put in a pony tail. Don't ask me why. I just did.

So after trying out the earthy hippy look (I even worked in a backpacking shop), I grew tired of the long locks (or reality set in) and I chopped off the do.
This was when I first realized how bad some people were at giving compliments. Matter of fact, what they gave did not qualify (IMHO) as a compliment.
Check the difference:
COMPLIMENT #1: "Wow! Your hair looks SOOOOOO much better!!!!"
COMPLIMENT #2: "Wow! Your hair looks great!!!"
See the subtle difference?
The first attempt at flattery included a backhanded insult whereas the latter was just flattery.
So if any of those people who blew their chance at a qualified compliment back then, here's another opportunity.

29Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.
Ephesians 4:29
