Exercise blah blah blah

I've written in the past about resolving to exercise (hence the snarky blog post title), and it's easy to deduce by my Scoop Dog checkins vs. Runkeeper posts ratio that that resolve has amounted to piddle. This excerpt from a Livestrong blog post says it well.

The "terrible twos" have long been touted as one of the most trying times when dealing with toddlers, but it can seem even more difficult for a parent who wants to stay fit. Unfortunately, the demands and schedules of parenthood can often make it hard to stick to a regular exercise routine. Instead of trying to fit physical fitness around your parenting lifestyle, why not try and exercise with your toddler?

Tonight, Ines and I made our first attempt at family exercise/play time. After months or years of good intentions to squeeze in a workout or two here and there, tonight we bit the bullet and did it. I don't know if Bob Harper or Jillian Michaels would have been impressed, but we are feeling proud of those 30 minutes.

Let's call this Day 1.

Tools: recumbent bicycle, elliptical trainer, yoga ball, two year old son.

Ines did a few miles on the recumbent bike while I switched between the elliptical and running interference with the two year old. To ensure that calories were burned, I made playing with Nash an aerobic workout. We jogged in place and in circles, rolled around on the floor, and kicked the yoga ball back and forth. It was fun to watch him jog in place and imitate me doing stretches. The point was to just keep moving. We all got our heart rates up while enjoying some quality time with each other.

Looking forward to round 2 on Tuesday!
