So I was given a riding lawn mower a few weeks ago and just got around to firing it up this evening.
Getting the hang of this mower was not as easy as I had thought. Trying to maneuver around with less than precision steering was a workout. Going up the steep incline of parts of my backyard proved to be too great a challenge for the 16+ year old machine.
And it was during one of these challenging moments that it happened. The steering rod broke. Sheered the bolt right off.
I had turned to the right to start the climb back up the hill and the wheels stopped against the incline putting great force on the rod that turns the front wheels and POP! No more steering.
On the bright side I don't have any more than the cost of a new battery in this thing, I pretty much mowed most of the backyard, and my neighbor offered to weld the rod back together. That sounds fun.

UPDATE: My awesome neighbor (who drag races cars) was able to put my steering rod back together by drilling a new hole where the sheered bolt was connected. I'm back in business!
